Bat Boxes

  • Help conserve bats with this fabulous bat house for multi-species of bat occupancy.
  • It has one vertical chamber inside and an angled cut-away front with ladder style grooves.
  • The box is made from FSC certified pinewood and has a silver coloured zinc roof.
  • Measures: (H) 39.5 x (W) 18.5 x (D) 16.5 cm
  • Your bat box will work best if mounted on a building.
  • All bat houses should be mounted at least 10 feet above ground, and 12 to 20 feet is better.
  • Choose a sunny location on the East or South facing side of your house.
  • Bat houses work best with at least 6-8 hours of direct sunlight (if only partial day sun is available- morning sun is preferable).
  • Bat houses should not be lit by bright lights, so do not install near porch or security lights.
  • Do not install your bat house above doors or windows where bat droppings will fall or accumulate in an inconvenient location.
  • It should be placed at least 20 to 25 feet from the nearest tree branches, wires or other potential perches for aerial predators.
  • It is illegal to disturb any bat when it is roosting, or to handle a bat without a licence.
  • However, you can monitor your bat box by looking for mouse-sized droppings beneath the bat box as a clue to occupation or observe from a distance at dusk to see if bats are exiting the box to hunt.
